Our mission is to reduce human suffering through early cancer detection and follow up using our RECAF™ technology.

A principal goal of cancer research is to differentiate cancer cells from healthy cells. Our patented technology achieves this goal: Our RECAF™ technology is able to effectively locate molecules (markers) that are present on cancer cells, but not on healthy cells.

RECAF™ is found on most cancer cells, including the most common malignancies (breast, colon, prostate and lung cancer), but not on normal cells. RECAF™ can be used in blood tests to determine if a patient has cancer and to monitor recurrence or metastases after treatment. Moreover, our RECAF™ blood tests can detect early stages of cancer, when curability rates reach 90%, which makes it suitable for screening purposes.

The blood test can be formatted for use in large clinical and hospital laboratories to be run manually or on automated instrumentation. BioCurex has presented data at numerous congresses showing the high performance of its manual clinical laboratory tests. Abbott Diagnostics Inc., one of our licensees, has presented similar results obtained with their Architect® high throughput automatic instrument at an international cancer marker congress.

The test has also been formatted as a point-of-care (POC) single use rapid test for use in physicians’ offices and at the bedside. We have presented results at international congresses showing the performance of our POC prototypes. BioCurex has also licensed its technology to Inverness Medical Switzerland GmbH, the largest manufacturer of POC tests worldwide.

Our studies have shown that RECAF™ blood tests can detect - with high sensitivity and specificity - very early stages (stages I and II) of breast and prostate cancer. The curability rate is the highest at those stages:

Prostate cancer
Stage
Curability
I (or A)
87%
II (or B)
81%
III (or C)
64%
IV (or D)
30%
Breast cancer
Stage
Curability
I
87%
II
75%
III
46%
IV
13%

It is clear from these tables that the early diagnosis of cancer (or the recurrence of a previously treated cancer) by a simple and inexpensive blood test such as our RECAF™ test can be crucial for effective therapy and prognosis.

In addition to human diagnostics, RECAF™ can be used for veterinary purposes and one of the company's subsidiaries, OncoPet Diagnostics Inc. provides services for testing for cancer in dogs, (to be expanded, in a 2nd stage, to cats). There are more than 72 million pet dogs in the U.S. and nearly 82 million pet cats. Approximately 50% of dogs die from cancer, depending on their breed.
